Washing machine under drainer

I would appreciate some advice about the strength of a laminate worktop. The plan is to fit a free-standing washing machine under the sink drainer. The sink is a standard steel sink, 900mm X 500mm. The sink will be over a 500mm cabinet and the cut-out for the drainer will be above the washing machine. Will the remaining 50mm of worktop at back and front be strong enough over the 640mm span above the washing machine or will it need additional support at the front edge. The back of the...

Howdens driving me mad

Hi

Been trying to get our new kitchen finalised for 9 weeks now through Howdens using my mates account.
Howdens are passing his discounts directly to us as he asked them to, hes fitting the kitchen. Making a simple change involves an email and then up to a week to get it changed. Howdens reckon there a bit short staffed at the moment. We have visited and sat down with the planners twice now and finally got the design we want. They still keep leaving out things or adding thing we dont need....

Problems with black sealant

My kitchen has black sealant between the dark tiles and the horizontal worksurfaces and metal sink. The sealant is three years old and has fallen out around the sink (in spite of being wiped dry each time the sink had been used), and has parted from the worksurface all the way along. Four years ago the same fitter installed a bathroom, and the white sealant used is still 100%. I need to replace the kitchen black sealant. I've no idea what product was used. Do black sealants contain particles...

Not fitted kitchen before and may get someone to do it but at the moment i am trying to plan the kitchen and want to make sure I have all things ready for ordering. The kitchen will be an L shape with sink in the middle of the bottom of the L, I plan to have an intergrated washer and dishwasher either side of the sink.
1. Do I need end panel either side of the washer and dishwasher, one side will come off a corner unit which will have the corner post so I assume no end panel needed there,...

Connecting kitchen units and curved elements

Hi, I've had a kitchen supplied and can see no way of discretely making a mechanical connection between a unit and a curved element so I figure double sided tape is probably best.

I need to know whether others use double sided tape in situations like this and if so, exactly which one is most appropriate and comes highly recommended please. The one problem I have encountered with this solution is that I need as small-a-gap as possible between the two pieces to avoid unsightly vertical lines...

I have always fitted standard(in my eyes) kitchens. Plinths set back with lay on doors. Getting more clients wanting in-frame and plinths set forward to make them look like traditional furniture.

Quite a lot I see have the detail like this one round the base. Where it will have a rail round. So the question is, how do you guys do it ? Mortice and tennon, dowel or Kreg style screw jig ? Or any jigs on the market or...

Worktop jig, male cut, what am I doing wrong!?

Hi all,

First time posting here, but used it many times in the past for good info, so hoping someone can help.

I'm fitting kitchen worktops. Probably should have got someone in to do the job, but thought I'd tackle it.

Ive borrowed a neighbours router and jig. the jig is branded as Magnet trade, but I think its basically the Unika one. Female cuts are fine. The wortop is 635mm deep, so I need to add a 15mm shim on rough edge to use the 650mm peg holes.

The problem I'm having is with the...

Ive just installed a brand new oak worktop with units in my kitchen, a big DIY job. first time ever fitting a kitchen or working with oak worktops. Did as much research as i could before starting and im relly pleased with results so far. unfortunately the edges of the joins are a millimeter or two out due to the tops being ever so slightly different thicknesses etc.

I was wanting advice on how to smooth these down.

Should I hand sand with block (120, 240 or 320 grit?)
Should I use a linear...

Hi Forum

I need to create a custom sized L shaped corner post to finish off my kitchen.
I've got a spare door that's not needed so though I could cut a length of each end of that.

It a white high gloss vinyl finished door.
I've read this very useful post but got sort of lost towards the end.

I've got access to a circular saw and a friend with some experience using it and picked the...

Need some advice on fitting one in my bathroom.

I can cut to size using a diamond tile cutter, sand the edge flat and polish with T-cut and it looks fine.

Now, I need to fix it to the unit - screws are obviously out and I do want it to be removable which means a full silicone bead/bed is so right either.

My idea is to stick some blocks on the underside which will rest hard against the inside of the cabinet and stop any movement - the blocks would/could be screwed to the cabinet but how...

I have been fitting a kitchen by a company called British Standard, no complaints about thye quality but the oak worktops (sections of around 140mm glued together) were dished by 7mm and 10mm so they were replaced. The new ones have come and are exactly the same, but the dishing is convex on one and concave on the other the suppliers are saying that they are fittable but I can not see me having a hope in hell lining up biscuits and getting a decient joint - please tell me I am missing...

We went to attach the unit and discovered inside the oven two black bars. We can not find out where or what they are for could you please help. As we do not want to use them yet until we know what they are for.

Hi All,

Looking from some seasoned professional advice...

What should I expect to pay for labour only when fitting a new kitchen? Below is a list of jobs I need doing...
  • My kitchen is a bit smaller than 10ft x 10ft and I'm looking for a 'U' shaped layout.
  • Removal of current kitchen.
  • Knocking out of built in larder.
  • Re-wiring of electrics (I want a double socket in each corner, as well as a double socket about 3-4 foot from one corner. I currently have a double socket...

In 2013 we had our newly bought outdated house completely renovated/extended.

My wife was pregnant at the time and we made a rushed decision of either waiting until our children were a little older to carry out the huge amount of works or get a company to do it there and then without thoroughly researching...
Through local recommendations, we found a company that gave us a good price and were able to start within the 2/3 months mark of the initial meeting.

It took the company around 4...

alternative Colorfill solvent

The worktop supplier kindly threw in a tube of colorfill - but none of the colorfill solvent it tells you to use to wipe away any excess. (fairy snuff, only spent £300 I suppose!)

Any idea what can be used as an alternative? White spirit, meths etc - I'm sure something else must be pretty identical...

cheers in advance

Kitchen Units - Fixing Kit?

Hi,
I have some off the shelf kitchen wall cupboards we bought. There were no screws etc with it. So couple of questions please:-

1)
What would be the best size screws and plugs to fix to internal block/brick walls?

2)
Can a "Drill Bit, Plugs, Screws" kit be bought from a DIY shop rather than the individual items?

THANKYOU.
