Microwave ventilation

Hi

We are shortly having our new kitchen fitted with all appliances integrated. One concern i have is how does the microwave oven ventilate? I asked the fitter and he said it just vents into the back space of the unit.
Our old free standing microwave could vent a lot of steam depending on what was being cooked. I have searched online and cannot find any kind of hood or microwave vent. It seems crazy that all that hot air and vapour is vented behind the kitchen units. Am i missing something?...

I am replacing my MILs cooker because she ended up buying a cooker far too small for her needs. It was new last year and fitted within the last 10 months. The question I have is; am I allowed as a completely unqualified in the art of gas person? Or do I need a Corgi engineer to remove?

Hi,
I moved into a new build with astro gloss alabaster kitchen units. I have now come to the stage where I have the money to add units where the builder has skimped. My problem is that the company have discontinued this range/colour and I can no longer get them to match. I need 2 x 1200mm standard double wall units and 1 x 600mm wall unit, Does anyone know of another manufacturer that is the same colour in high gloss doors?

Thanks in advance...

Hi All, I am a semi retired sparks. I am having a new kitchen fitted (ikea supplied and fitted, it had to be ikea as i am having a quartz worktop and they wont guarantee it if they don't fit)
This is a quote for supp works.
I have attached a few pics. you can see the dishwasher on the left. Its states pipe will either be chopped in or under plinth (i am pretty sure they will be under the plinth). The cupboard round the boiler has already been included in the fitting price but it will need...

Help! Issues with solid oak worktop fitting

Hi there,

Moved into a new place three weeks ago and have had a bit of a nightmare with the builder I've chosen to work on renovating it.

Lots of issues (I agreed to a day rate, which I regret massively having already had him working for three weeks to fit three quarters of a kitchen!), but wanted to see whether anyone could help with some info on the kitchen worktop.

Bought a solid oak worktop from Benchmarx which was a good £400 a length.

He's cut the two lengths and they're...

Removing a carcass without disturbing worktop

Hello,
I am trying to remove a base unit to fit a slimline dishwasher. I have removed most of it but the unit is screwed in from the top down into the back and the only way I could unscrew it is if I removed the worktops, which I can't as they are moulded to the wall!
It is similar to this post (there is a picture if you scroll down that shows what I'm talking about)

Dishwasher instalation under draining board

I am about to install a dishwasher under a ceramic draining board (integral with a ceramic sink). The underside of the sink is about half an inch above the underside of the worktop. There is a cutout in the worktop for the draining board, but a 4 inch strip of worktop exists at the front edge and a similar at the back edge. Do I have to make up some vapour blocking plate to attach to the underside of the worktop and thus seal off the cutout, or will the narrow vapour seal plate provided be...

"fusion" worktop - by John Lewis of Hungerford

I am refitting a second-hand John Lewis of Hungerford kitchen. The worktop was never going to fit; but I see it's made of chipboard, some sort of mastic and then a thin layer of plastic. What is this magical stuff, and where can I find some?

The other thing is... the current kitchen has a nice stainless steel draining board; ideal for putting hot roasting trays on. What can I build into the worktop that will have the same indestructibility - but will please the aesthetic requirements of the...

Hi All,

Looking from some seasoned professional advice...

What should I expect to pay for labour only when fitting a new kitchen? Below is a list of jobs I need doing...
  • My kitchen is a bit smaller than 10ft x 10ft and I'm looking for a 'U' shaped layout.
  • Removal of current kitchen.
  • Knocking out of built in larder.
  • Re-wiring of electrics (I want a double socket in each corner, as well as a double socket about 3-4 foot from one corner. I currently have a double socket...

Cooker hood ducting

Just moved into a property where the cooker hood was not extracting outside as no hole was drilled.

Well, builder drilled a lovely hole today but it is just about 5mm to small in diameter!

The ducting has a reducer on the hood going from 150mm to 125mm. I see there are reducers going from 150 to 100mm. Anyone used these? Or should i get a 125mm to 100mm reducer? I could sit that on the existing reducer?

Sealing Gas hob - is this right?

Hello all!
We've just had a gas hob fitted, and the sealing strip between the hob and the worktop looks pretty messy, and means that the hob sits above the worktop rather than flush with it (picture attached). I don't believe it's meant to look like this, but not sure what to do to fix it. Have tried trimming with a razor blade, but with no great joy.

Would it be best to remove the hob and refit a different sealing strip? Or is there a way to improve the way it looks without doing this?...

Hi,
I have recently had an oak worktop fitted over a belfast sink. The worktop has had three coats of danish oil. Does anyone know of a good quality silicone sealant that will adhere to the oiled worktop where it meets the ceramic belfast sink?.

Double oven in wall

Hi,

Any thoughts re my current project please.

I want to install a double built-in oven into a 600mm thick cob wall.

I am proposing buying the oven and then constructing a carcase to suit. The carcase would need to be approx 600x880mm. (I can do a good job of this !)
I will then get a builder to make a hole in the wall with lintels etc. and install the carcase.
For simplicity, I think we will probably go right through the cob wall and then make good on the 'other side'.

As this finished...

Damaged worktop

Is there any way to repair a chip to the top edge of a dark grey granite effect worktop? The chipboard core is exposed and I mainly want to seal it to prevent water penetrating, but an approximate colour match would help to disguise the damage. Thanks for any help.
