Hi there,

We recently got a new kitchen fitted, and this extractor fan was put into place, however when the fan is switched on it blows air out instead of sucking? The fitter said it was installed correctly, so he went and got another one incase this one was faulty. The new one we got today (same model) does the exact same thing and he's baffled. The wires are correct and there does not seem to be any way of switching it to suck instead of blow? The manual with it does not contain any brand...

Hardboard not good enough for vinyl floor?

Wanting to have vinyl floor on our 3m x 3m kitchen suspended timber floor.

The original floorboards were not bad, but draughty, so we decided to put 3mm hardboard down first. The entire floor has been hardboarded, prior to kitchen units fitted on top.

A local carpet/vinyl floor shop has told us the hardboard was a mistake; they say it is "not structurally strong" enough for vinyl floor, in a kitchen. They say we should take up hardboard (cutting up to kitchen unit legs), fit 6mm ply (at...

Which screws for base cabinet to wall using space plug?

Hi,
I thought I'd use space plugs to attach my cabinets to the wall rather than angle brackets. They come with a 6mm drillbit so red wallplugs are suitable and 8-10 ga (4-5mm) screws.
The cabinet rail is 18mm depth, behind that the back panel is 9mm then there is the 50mm gap to the wall, then I have ~30mm plaster before breeze block. I don't want to crack the plaster so want a little depth for the plug, say 20mm, so total length of screw needed is 120mm+.
I've looked (internet admittedly)...

Replacing built in under-workstop oven with larger unit

I'm at my mum's for the weekend and her oven died on her yesterday, so we picked up one on ebay this morning.

The old unit was a single oven, built-in, under-worktop. The new one is also under-worktop, but a double oven.

I've removed the old oven which leaves the following hole: [IMG]

By my measurements, the new oven will be flush with the plinth, so even if I could take the shelf out and...

Extractor Hood required for STEAM extraction

Hello,

I bought and fitted this hood from Screwfix:
http://www.screwfix.com/p/chx90ss-cooker-chimney-hood-stainless-steel-900mm/94753

To cut a long story short when the motor is running and there are pans on the hob, condensation forms on the motor and drips down onto the hob.

I contacted the manufacturers and spoke to their technical support. We discussed how it had been installed (it vents outside) and agreed that it had been installed correctly and I was told it was...

Jig for 50mm Square Edge Laminate

Hi guys,

First time posting on a forum.

Have 3 worktops and a breakfast bar to join.

All are 50mm thick square edge laminate (like picture) Wickes 'Romantic Walnut' wood effect and haven't fitted any of this type before.

Few questions:

1) Mitre with jig or butt joint? Taking 600mm of edging off seems a bit of a faff and may not be ideal join?

2) My Trend KWJ900 has been damaged on guide so need to replace. This jig gives a 35mm deep female cut. Looking to replace it with the Trend...

I have old wooden kitchen worktops. I was wanting to have a laminate surface on top so it's a smooth and easy wipe clean surface. At the moment liquids soak into the wood and some areas of the worktop have stained black and some of the surface has an annoying stickiness to it which I can't get rid of by using hot soapy water.

Any advice please? If not advised to try and put a laminate cover on top can I try sanding and putting on some kind of varnish to get a smooth clean surface again?...

Extractor ideas please...?

Hi all,

I am new to the forum and said hi to all earlier, hello again to all...

I need to ask for help. We are currently having an unfinished extension completed.

However, we are having an island put in the middle of our kitchen. Unfortunately the area of roof above has a step into the void above the centre of the island and hob, not allowing the fitting of a normal extractor unit directly over the hob.

Does anyone have any ideas on how we can fit some kind of extractor into this area,...

Ive just installed a brand new oak worktop with units in my kitchen, a big DIY job. first time ever fitting a kitchen or working with oak worktops. Did as much research as i could before starting and im relly pleased with results so far. unfortunately the edges of the joins are a millimeter or two out due to the tops being ever so slightly different thicknesses etc.

I was wanting advice on how to smooth these down.

Should I hand sand with block (120, 240 or 320 grit?)
Should I use a linear...

Maximum loading for a kitchen wall cupboard

Last week I fitted a 600mm corner wall unit as part of my refurb. project. With similar projects, I've always had a lovely "plaster over solid brick" wall to plug for the fixings. The current wall is dot and dab plasterboard over lightweight blockwork. I therefore used 100mm concrete screws for the wall brackets, which seemed to screw up well.

I then "hung" the cupboard and decided to test the security of the fixings by loading it - two tubs of tile cement and two boxes of tiles totalling...

Over- hob extractor - what are the standard diameter(s) for the ducting?

$

Just nearing the end of a kitchen refurb. Tried to fit the extractor (a CST61) but the spigot for connecting to the ducting system is 115/118mm diameter (bendy plastic!). This doesn't seem to match either of the two standard diameters you can get from Screwfix (100mm or 125mm) although I haven't actually tried either of these two sizes yet). Does this seem like a non-standard size or is it a standard size that Screwfix doesn't sell?

Thanks for any comments from the experts.
