Gas pipe behind oven

Gas pipe behind oven
Hello I need to change my electric oven to a new one.
There is the pipe gas to feed the hob at the back ot the oven unit. If I fit a single oven that is 500mm deep, there will be a gap of 40mm between the oven and the gas pipe. Would this be enough?

If 40mm isn't good enough, Any way to have something like a cover installed on the pipe to protect it from the heat supplied by the oven.

Many Thanks
Florent

Cooke and Lewis mixer kitchen tap. Help please!

Hi all, hoping for some assistance to make a frustrating day worth it. I have sought to replace our mixer taps cartridge today. The hot and cold is controlled by seperate levers . In order to replace the cartridge I've taken the levers off- difficulty is in getting them back on. There seems to be no obvious way of attaching them and I wanted to see whether anyone else here has had this problem.

I will see if I can put up a picture to assist but any preliminary suggestions would be very...

Pitting in a solid surface wortop

I have a newly installed solid surface worktop - the one where glass and shell is basically mixed with cement and layered onto chipboard. one piece has now Pin holes all over it . the manufacturer has said this is not uncommon as holes are in the mix which do not all vibrate out (like when vibrating concrete)- when you final sand the surface (600 grit) the pinholes can appear. I wouldn't have bought it if I would have know but now have a sink piece full of them - how can they be deemed to be...

Kitchen fit problem

Definitely an ameture here and wanting to save some money. Purchased a kitchen for the mother in law and as it is only 8 cabinets, I thought I could do it. What has flumoxed me is the "plant on ends" I have these for a few base units and all of the wall cabinets. The problem is, they are all far bigger than the actual carcass. I thought it was an error in the order, but I have what was recommended at purchase. They are all taller and wider than the ends of the cabinets. I was hoping to...

What membrane to use over dishwasher under a solid wood worktop?

I'm fitting a solid wood worktop for the first time and have been reading how it needs protecting from the damp of dishwashers and washing machines with a membrane. Can anyone advise on the what membrane to use, does it just sit neatly over the top or should it hang over the back and sides? It's an (integrated dishwasher) Also does it need any protection around the oven/hob and what about heat from the back of the fridge?

Help! Issues with solid oak worktop fitting

Hi there,

Moved into a new place three weeks ago and have had a bit of a nightmare with the builder I've chosen to work on renovating it.

Lots of issues (I agreed to a day rate, which I regret massively having already had him working for three weeks to fit three quarters of a kitchen!), but wanted to see whether anyone could help with some info on the kitchen worktop.

Bought a solid oak worktop from Benchmarx which was a good £400 a length.

He's cut the two lengths and they're...

Removing gas cooker.

I am replacing my MILs cooker because she ended up buying a cooker far too small for her needs. It was new last year and fitted within the last 10 months. The question I have is; am I allowed as a completely unqualified in the art of gas person? Or do I need a Corgi engineer to remove?

Parking fees of fitter

My 83 year old sick elderly father had a bathroom installed by Homebase. They asked my father to pay their installer cash-in-hand for plastering work and the rest of the fees by a 1 year loan agreement through their own credit account.

The road my father lives on in London charges for parking during the daytime so the installer had to pay for parking each day he worked (8 days I believe) and forced my dad to buy these tickets. Is it standard practice for subcontractors or people employed...

Hiya gents,

I need a new kitchen and am thinking of either Howden's or DIY-kitchens to supply.

It is a single 4Meter straight run with a separate 60x150 island breakfast bar. The kitchen will need new plumbing and electrics. Could you please PM to quote me?

could you please give me an idea of what this should cost me and let me know if you can help?

thanks

Gower Rapide - Quality or Cr*p?

Anyone got experience of Gower Rapide? I have fitted dozens of Howdens kitchens for customers but their price for units alone for my own kitchen is £6K. Being on a tight budget I started to look on the net (due to our location there’s only Howdens, Benchmarx & B&Q locally) and saw Rapide Valencia at less than HALF the Howdens price. Not a straight comparison I know, as they’re 15mm and flatpacked, but I could live with that for the saving. As I’ve not heard of them before I’d appreciate any...

12mm MDF (kitchen) panels - such a thing?

Hi there,

Is there any such thing as 12mm coated MDF?

I've painted myself into a corner with the kitchen. The last base units in the row nudge up to the door architrave and stop the unit's door opening.

Schoolboy error as I failed to account for replaster and skim when measuring up.

The only leeway I have is a panel between the freezer and the unit - currently 18mm coated MDF and wondered if i could swap this out for a thinner one, buying the 5mm I need.

I don't want to remove the panel...

Sealing Gas hob - is this right?

Hello all!
We've just had a gas hob fitted, and the sealing strip between the hob and the worktop looks pretty messy, and means that the hob sits above the worktop rather than flush with it (picture attached). I don't believe it's meant to look like this, but not sure what to do to fix it. Have tried trimming with a razor blade, but with no great joy.

Would it be best to remove the hob and refit a different sealing strip? Or is there a way to improve the way it looks without doing this?...

Kitchen Units - Fixing Kit?

Hi,
I have some off the shelf kitchen wall cupboards we bought. There were no screws etc with it. So couple of questions please:-

1)
What would be the best size screws and plugs to fix to internal block/brick walls?

2)
Can a "Drill Bit, Plugs, Screws" kit be bought from a DIY shop rather than the individual items?

THANKYOU.

Tiled wall fixings

This is really for a shower, but someone may have an answer in this section? I am looking to fix a few shelves in a shower and as it is a new build the tiles are on plasterboard. Is there a specific fitting that is best to use? Probably no more than a kilo per fixing required. The ones I am replacing have standard screws in and have rusted. Also where the previous owner used the compression type wall fixings that you use a tool on, the tiles are cracked and I will replace.
Thanks in advance.
