Oak worktop

I have a price of sold oak I'd like to use between my butler sink and cooker only a small area about 800mm wide I was looking at it and wondered should I fit the oak so the grain runs to the back rather than with the wall. So you would see the end grain at the front. I was thinking the long grain is less likely to split near the sink and cooker.
What do you all think?
