ply floor, vinyl and skirtings

I have ply boarded the kitchen floor and will be having vinyl put down in a week or so.
I am going to replace the skirting boards tonight.

For the best finish, should I fit the skirting boards hard on top of the ply - or leave a gap for the vinyl to be tucked under? Or does it matter?
