Plastering kitchen upstand walls

Customer is removing splash tiles above worktop to replace with up stands. Tiles removed leaving old plaster down to render. The plasterer gave up half way through quitting without charge.

I’m going to have a go as I don’t mind a little touch of plastering my to u, will i better straight on with multi finish, or try bonding first. Would I get away with a finer product?
