New hob close to upstand

I have just had a new kitchen fitted. We got quartz worktops from separate company which was fitted before hob.The hob has been fitted but is very near the upstand, I measured 7cm from edge of burner to upstand. The upstand will likely get scorched if we use anything on that hob. Is this a design flaw or typical for this sort of thing. Photo attached
