LED accent lighting

I have self adhesive lighting strips for underneath kitchen units. These are powered by a plug in transformer without any kind of inline switch... not ideal having the pug transformer and having to switch it on and off at the wall.
What is the usual installation with these ? Are they usually powered from the wall switch and come on when the main light is switched on or on there own switch ? Or ???
