Trim worktop edging strips

Hi,

How can I go about trimming a laminate worktop edging strip to size when it was glued too large?

I have seen reference to using a router/plane but can't find any suitable videos for guidance -- im not a kitchen fitter but willing to give something a try.

I have access to a router but unsure which bit I would need.

I have tried filing; but I think I need a newer file as didn't seem to remove much material.

Any ideas?
