Leveling floor again

I have just removed the kitchen floor tiles to lay new ones down and change the unit.
The adhesive as mostly stayed behind and some parts have of the cement floor have come up with the adhesive.
Do I need to remove all the adhesive before self leveling or will the leveling compound cover all the irregularities.
